In the new beta version of its app, Whatsapp made some pretty big changes to Groups Conversations. WhatsApp rolled out the update over the weekend having version 2.18.205 in the hope of making the group messaging feature more functional for admins of large groups, who want to make sure that important announcements are not missed due to other messages.
This is what WhatsApp said in a blog post-
"Today, we're launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group," which further expanded to
"One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centres, and non-profit organisations. We've introduced this new setting so admins can have better tools for these use cases."
The new update mainly focuses on two things only- Groups and Admins. This gives more control to the group admins and to restrict who can send messages to the entire group.Here are some of the changes in the public beta-
Whatsapp introduced a one-way message feature that can be sent only by admins. Making the group an announcement hub, allowing admins to host groups where nobody else can reply.
Whatsapp users who are admin of a group can go to 'group settings' and tap on 'send messages'. Here by selecting 'only admins', regular members of the group will no longer be able to message in the group, but will only recieve the messages and notifications sent by the admin or admins. Thus this new feature turns the messaging service into a one-way public notice board, which is similar to broadcast option of its rival app- Telegram.
Whatsapp also added the functionality to hide media fron gallery. It is of two types-
one that works for the entire app, and another that lets you specifically change the setting per chat/group. The first type hides every new downloaded media from the gallery while the second one allows you to hide newly downloaded media for a specific Group or User.
Now admins can restrict users who can change the group’s subject, icon, and description. The setting also lets users edit Group admins and remove some as admins without removing them from the group. However, group creators are now immune to being ejected.
This feature adds a search option on the group info screen by which particicants can be searched. This probably is a handy feature for a large group.
Whatsapp rolled out this feature earlier in the year however, this time its a official update. Earlier admins and other participants could add a description to group chats so when a new person joins a group, the description will show up at the top of the chat. However, thanks to the update admins can restrict who can add descriptions, be it all participants or just those who are designated as admins.
After returning to a group chat a new @ button floating in the bottom right corner is seen which denotes any mentions or replies, which might be handy at times.
So the new Whatsapp aims at transforming group chats for a better scope. However few of the similar features are also seen in its rival Telegram, in which broadcast groups are more likely used, its still a doubt that after the exit of its founder- Jan Koum, will it still be able to maintain its ethics?

Re-download Deleted Media
If you have mistakenly deleted media file from Whatsapp using Gallery or File Explorer recieved in the past few weeks, now you can still get it back. For that go back to the conversation in WhatsApp and you'll find the blurred thumbnail there with a download button again. Then tap it, and you'll have your images back.
